Newport took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Community Christian Academy Crusaders as they made off with a 74-53 victory.
Newport found their leader in sophomore Amontae Lowe, who almost dropped a double-double with 29 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Irvan Nichols, who shot 58% from the field on his way to 16 points and six boards.
Community Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Looking ahead, Newport is taking a road trip to challenge Holmes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Community Christian Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Christian Educational Consortium at 7:45 p.m. on the 19th.
