The Niwot Cougars suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Monday. They were dealt a 67-30 loss at the hands of Mountain View. Niwot has not had much luck with Mountain View recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Niwot saw an underclassman step up: Ella Zechman scored six points along with two steals. Zechman continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Niwot's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.5 points per game. As for Mountain View, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Niwot will challenge Riverdale Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverdale Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Niwot in Colorado (Riverdale Ridge is ranked 19th, while Niwot is ranked 196th). Mountain View won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Frederick at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Frederick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Saturday.
