It was a good run, but the Superior Spartans unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Cherry by a score of 53-51. While losing is never fun, Superior can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 108th in Wisconsin, while Cherry is ranked third in Minnesota).
Cherry's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Noah Sundquist, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The game was Sundquist's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Isaac Asuma was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Superior's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Cherry, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Superior will be home for the holidays to greet Solon Springs at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Solon Springs knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Superior likes a good challenge. Cherry will be home for the holidays to greet Moose Lake/Willow River at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Moose Lake/Willow River has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 254 points over their last three contests.
