It was a good run, but the Battle Spartans unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 71-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Father Tolton. Battle was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Father Tolton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Vernell Holt and Tate McCubbin certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Holt scored 19 points, while McCubbin scored 15 points along with two steals. Keshun Jackson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Battle's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3. As for Father Tolton, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3.
Battle will take on Fort Zumwalt South at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Father Tolton, they will face off against Curie at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Curie is ranked third in Illinois, while Father Tolton is ranked eighth in Missouri).
