Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) upset
Cumberland Valley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) 48-28 on Saturday.
The Crusaders were up 24-7 at the half after taking the lead on a Lawson touchdown run in the second quarter.
Bishop McDevitt expanded its lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. BM scored three times in the third, including once on a field goal by
Connor Maloney.
The Eagles'
Jeremy Salmon was the standout player for his team. The senior ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to seven on the year.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Harrisburg school's close 3-0 loss to Cumberland Valley last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Cumberland Valley, which notched a 35-17 victory over Central York in its previous outing. With the win the Crusaders extended their winning streak to three games. The loss snapped CV's 2-game winning streak.
In a Mid-Penn - Commonwealth game next week Cumberland Valley (2-1) takes on Central Dauphin East, and Bishop McDevitt (3-0) will go up against Mechanicsburg in a Mid-Penn - Keystone game.
