Softball Recap: Independence Wins Going Away Against Heritage

Independence barely beat Heritage the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Independence Knights never let the Heritage Coyotes get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Monday. The game marked the Knights' most dominant win of the season so far.

Avery Hillier was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Stormy DANIEL, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. Megan McCADDEN was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

The victory got Independence back to even at 4-4. As for Heritage, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Independence wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 7-2 defeat against Emerson on the 7th. As for Heritage, they have also already played their next game, a 12-1 loss against Memorial on the 7th.
