The Burwell Longhorns scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by St. Edward at home to the tune of 70-10. That looming 70-10 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Burwell yet this season.
Burwell found their leader in underclassman Brookelyn Gideon, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gideon scored 15 or more points. Kaitlyn Hughes was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Edward struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Burwell racked up nine assists.
Burwell now has a winning record of 3-2. As for St. Edward, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burwell won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Anselmo-Merna at 6:00 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Anselmo-Merna focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday. St. Edward will be home for the holidays to greet Elba at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Elba is ranked 281st, while St. Edward is ranked 280th).
