The Chaparral Wolverines will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Lutheran Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Chaparral saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sunrise Mountain. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Logan Manuello made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Josh McWilliams, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lutheran). They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Santa Fe South on Wednesday. The Lions not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17, 2024.
Lutheran also got a great performance from Landry Warner as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anthony Misch, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Christopher Delcambre was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.
Lutheran pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chaparral has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chaparral came out on top in a nail-biter against Lutheran in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 6-5. Will Chaparral repeat their success, or does Lutheran has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
