The Wootton Patriots and the Frederick Cadets squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Wootton Patriots had to settle for second. Wootton was beaten by Frederick 62-0. While losing is never fun, Wootton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Frederick is ranked 33rd).
Matthew Repie threw for 42 yards on four of 19 attempts. On the ground, Joshua Reid rushed for 36 yards.
Tae Anderson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 198 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also catching a touchdown. Anderson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Newton Essiem got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Wootton has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Frederick, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.
Wootton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Frederick will head out on the road to face off against North Point at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Point is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
