If the St. Francis Fighting Saints were riding high off their 81-48 takedown of the Milaca Wolves on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. St. Francis' rough 72-51 defeat to Becker on Thursday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, St. Francis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Becker is ranked 93rd).
Becker's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josh Groskreutz led the charge by scoring 15 points along with three steals. The contest was Groskreutz's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Connor Gass, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
St. Francis' loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Becker, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
St. Francis will be home for the holidays to greet Cloquet at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Cloquet's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Becker, they will head out on the road to face off against North Branch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Branch is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
