It was a classic North v. South duel when Northern Durham challenged Southern School of Energy and Sustainability on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers stepped up to hand the Spartans a 29-0 shutout. With that win, the Knights brought their scoring average up to 8.2 runs per game.

Austin Brown and Tanner Freeman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Brown tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Freeman struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brown has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Brown went 2-for-5 with four runs and two RBI, while Freeman went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Freeman a new career-high.

In other batting news, JonLuke Harper was a standout: he went 5-for-6 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Wilkins, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

Northern Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .569. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Northern Durham's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Coming up, Northern Durham will face off against Eastern Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability will be paying especially close attention to the Knights' game: after the Knights face off against the Eagles, they'll take on Southern School of Energy and Sustainability again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
