The Pagosa Springs Pirates will face off against the Cedaredge Bruins at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Pagosa Springs has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Cedaredge will arrive with 12 straight victories.
Pagosa Springs lost 15-5 to Montezuma-Cortez on Monday.
Kyler Henderson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Cedaredge came out on top against Roaring Fork on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Bruins walked away with a 10-6 win over the Rams.
Brady Cooper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carson Rupp, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Rylan Brooks was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Cedaredge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Cedaredge's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.9 runs. As for Pagosa Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pagosa Springs has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cedaredge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pagosa Springs beat Cedaredge 8-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
