The Northampton County Jaguars can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They blew past Wilson Prep 63-18 at home. The win was familiar territory for Northampton County who now have seven in a row.
Northampton County had a senior duo take command as Charlice Tyner scored eight points along with nine steals and six rebounds and Michaela Hodge scored 19 points along with six rebounds and six blocks. Hodge is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kyra Vincent was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Despite the defeat, Wilson Prep saw an underclassman step up: Nakiya Boston scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Boston pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Atkinson, who scored three points along with two steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Wilson Prep struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Northampton County pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.
Northampton County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Wilson Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Northampton County will stay at home for another game and welcome the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in North Carolina (Northwest Halifax is ranked 281st, while the Jaguars are ranked 263rd). As for Wilson Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
