The Wasatch Wasps will head out to face off against the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wasatch is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Wasatch lost 9-3 to Uintah on Friday.
Brylee Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Hallie Whiting also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maple Mountain). They were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over Enterprise on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Maple Mountain also got a great performance from Kyla Donegan as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Brettlyn Walker was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chelsie Carter, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Maple Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Maple Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Wasatch, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Wasatch hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wasatch might still be hurting after the 15-2 loss they got from Maple Mountain in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Wasps avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
