After a string of six wins, The Caruthers Blue Raiders''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They and Chowchilla were almost perfectly matched up, but Caruthers suffered an agonizing 32-31 loss. Caruthers was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Chowchilla apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Caruthers lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hunter Babb. Despite the final result, he rushed for 309 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. Babb is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played.
Chowchilla got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Davian Stephenson out in front who rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Stephenson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. Chowchilla also got a significant boost from Dwayne Hemphill, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 124 yards.
Caruthers' loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Chowchilla, their victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2.
Caruthers will take on Fowler at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fowler will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last. As for Chowchilla, they will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 151 points over their last three matches.
