St. Paul has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Central City Bison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Paul should still be feeling good after a big win, while Central City will be looking to get back into the win column.
After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, St. Paul brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Fairbury 46-6 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-0.
St. Paul's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cody Kuszak, who rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown. Alex Meinecke got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Central City pushed their score all the way to 35 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pierce. Central City has struggled against Pierce recently, as their game on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Central City saw an underclassman step up: Corbin Kyes rushed for 121 yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Dent, who picked up 151 receiving yards and a touchdown.
St. Paul's win on Friday bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Central City, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. St. Paul has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 155.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Central City struggles in that department as they've been even better at 182.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
St. Paul took a serious blow against Central City when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 42-13. Can St. Paul avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
