Garden Grove recap Sept. 26, 2012
Garden Grove was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in Garden Grove. Earlier in the week, the Argonauts defeated Katella 15-12.
Garden Grove moved up to 441 from 595 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 15-12 win over the Knights helped Willy Puga's team improve its standing.
La Quinta's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Don Tran threw for 201 and two touchdowns and Al Tran had 201 yards receiving. On the ground Tran chipped in 106 yards.
Jose Valenzuela made the biggest impact on defense this week as Rancho Alamitos lost to Sonora. The 5-foot-10 senior recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
5-foot-5 quarterback Richard Sagastume of Santiago is the league leader in passing yards this season with 368. He has also thrown three touchdowns. On the ground, Los Amigos's Gerardo Saldivar has rushed for 548 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Tran. The La Quinta star has 11 catches for 284 yards.
The Lobos took down Santa Ana 53-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
