The result was an unpleasant reminder to Wagener-Salley of the 34-17 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Blackville-Hilda was led to victory by Breyanna Williams and Aubreya Johnson. Williams almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds, while Johnson dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Williams is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Eva Sapp was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five steals.
Wagener-Salley has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season. As for Blackville-Hilda, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wagener-Salley will take on the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridge Spring-Monetta is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Blackville-Hilda, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Warhorses at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. Barnwell has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 20.
