Even though the Churchill Chargers scored an imposing 57 points on Wednesday, the Madison Mavericks still came out on top. Madison pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over Churchill. Given Madison's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Churchill is ranked 438th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madison's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Davion Huff, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Caden Cooper was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Madison has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. As for Churchill, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.
Madison will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against SA Roosevelt at 10:00 a.m. on January 20th. As for Churchill, they will face off against Johnson at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Johnson has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
