Baseball Recap: Larkin Drops Highest Score of Season Against Elgin

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Larkin brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They were the clear victors by a 20-3 margin over the Elgin Maroons on Tuesday. The Royals' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Adrian Gasca and Jameson Cunningham were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gasca pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Cunningham tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Gasca has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Gasca scored four runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Cunningham scored a run while going 2-for-4. Those four runs gave Gasca a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aden Mora, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Phoenix Rivera also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Larkin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Larkin's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Elgin, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Looking ahead, Larkin will head out to face off against St. Edward at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elgin, they will take on Streamwood at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
