Lehi is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Westlake is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Pioneers will welcome the Thunder at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lehi is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
While Lehi's win against Skyridge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pioneers had just enough and edged out the Falcons 7-5. The victory continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won four in a row.
Abbi Harroun spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mya Maughan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Sophie Bliss was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Lehi hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Westlake fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Pleasant Grove on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 4-3. The Thunder haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Westlake also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Brilynn Attebery gave up just two earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Audrey Sherman was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Madison Buckley, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Lehi's win bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Westlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Lehi hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Westlake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lehi couldn't quite finish off Westlake in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 6-4. Will the Pioneers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
