They had to suffer through a rough 81-41 loss at the hands of Mater Academy East Las Vegas. While losing is never fun, Cristo Rey St. Viator can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Mater Academy East Las Vegas is ranked 21st).
Mater Academy East Las Vegas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tru Young led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 28 rebounds. Young is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Terryion Johnson, who scored 16 points.
Cristo Rey St. Viator dropped their record down to 0-14 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.
Cristo Rey St. Viator won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Pinecrest Academy Cadence at 6:30 p.m. on February 8th. Cristo Rey St. Viator has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
