The Mountain View Mountain Lions will be playing at home against the Skyline Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday.
After a string of three wins, Mountain View's good fortune finally ran out. They were outmatched by Riverdale Ridge at home and fell 87-52. While losing is never fun, Mountain View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Riverdale Ridge is ranked 29th).
Dylan Garland put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Tyson Mares-Benz was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Skyline's three-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They snuck past Frederick with a 71-65 victory. The victory was just what Skyline needed coming off of a 77-47 defeat in their prior game.
It was another big night for Talan Starcevich, who scored 27 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Erives, who scored 12 points along with six steals.
Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Skyline, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's contest: Mountain View have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Skyline, though, as they've been averaging only 4.2 threes per game. Given Mountain View's sizeable advantage in that area, Skyline will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mountain View was able to grind out a solid win over Skyline in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 52-40. Will Mountain View repeat their success, or does Skyline have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
