The West Central Trojans will face off against the Tri-County Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. West Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
While West Central's win against North Judson-San Pierre wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bluejays 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Makylah Holle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cassidy Lattimore was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Tri-County's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hobart. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cavaliers, who until this contest were averaging 3.05 runs allowed.
Madilyn Nevitt put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Nevitt was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Nevitt wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grace Luck, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. Kaydence Schultz was another, going 2-for-5 with two runs.
West Central has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Tri-County, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-4.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Tri-County struggles in that department as they've averaged .403. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Central might still be hurting after the 12-4 loss they got from Tri-County in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
