The Pius X Thunderbolts were handed a two-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Norfolk Panthers on Tuesday. Pius X took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 59-28 win over Norfolk. Given Pius X's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Norfolk is ranked 154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pius X's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Markowski led the charge by scoring seven points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Prichard, who scored seven points.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Skylar Indra, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Bo Caskey, who scored ten points.
Pius X is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Norfolk, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-8.
Pius X's road trip will continue as they head out to face Omaha Westside at 7:15 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Omaha Westside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. As for Norfolk, they will play host again and welcome Kearney, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Kearney's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
