East Butler has been on the road for six straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Meridian Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
East Butler suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. Their rough 43-19 defeat to Shelby-Rising City might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points East Butler has scored all season.
Madison Dewitt was East Butler's leading scorer, having posted nine points.
Madalynn Marsh held things down on the boards with 14 rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Meanwhile, Meridian struggled with assists on Monday (McCool Junction had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Meridian was outmatched by McCool Junction on the road and fell 61-29. Meridian has struggled against McCool Junction recently, as their match on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jaylee Sobotka, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenzie Hofstetter, who scored six points.
East Butler's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-8. As for Meridian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: East Butler have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 38.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Meridian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
