Washington is 5-0 against Liberty since February of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Washington Warriors will be playing at home against the Liberty Lightning at 7:30 p.m. Washington has now lost seven straight, leaving the team is hunting for their first win since January 19.
Last Thursday, Washington ended up a good deal behind Iowa City West and lost 71-52. While losing is never fun, Washington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Iowa City West is ranked fifth).
Meanwhile, Liberty lost to Prairie on the road by a decisive 71-52 margin on Friday.
Despite their loss, Liberty saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Trey Hughes, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Kampman, who scored seven points.
Washington has not been sharp recently as the team has lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Washington won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, slipping by Liberty 70-69. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Liberty's Da'shon Fisher, who scored 25 points along with two steals and two blocks. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Washington to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
