Western Branch's Josh Marriner recorded the longest rushing play in AAA Southeastern this season in his game against Great Bridge last week. Marriner's team beat the Wildcats as he sprinted for 90 yards on the play and finished with 417 in all.
Oscar Smith extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Grassfield, 27-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Western Branch's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. C.J. Thomas threw for 87 and two touchdowns and Donte Shepard had 37 yards receiving. Chris Hancock helped Western Branch's passing attack out by catching one ball for 31 yards.
The Grizzlies' Blake LaRussa and Paris Smith have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. LaRussa has thrown for 1231 yards this season, while Smith, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 28 catches for 658 yards. Marriner from Greg Gibson's team leads the league in rushing with 1682 yards.
A big matchup in AAA Southeastern this week will be when Oscar Smith takes on King's Fork. Richard Morgan's team is in first place, while the Bulldogs are in third place.
King's Fork took down Deep Creek 60-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
