The West Potomac Wolverines will head out to take on the Lake Braddock Bruins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. West Potomac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Lake Braddock will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: West Potomac extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Wolverines came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against Fairfax.
The team relied heavily on Sabrina Driggers, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shea Studdiford, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Lake Braddock entered their tilt with Alexandria City on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Titans 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Mac Verdejo made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, Addison Forde was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Mae Brewin also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Lake Braddock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexandria City only posted an OBP of .226.
West Potomac's record now sits at 3-4. As for Lake Braddock, their record is now 5-2.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Potomac has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Lake Braddock struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Potomac beat Lake Braddock 4-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
