After a string of seven wins, the Elizabeth Minutemen's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Plainfield. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Elizabeth came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Plainfield is ranked 52nd).
Several Minutemen players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayden Johnson, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Christopher "cj" Clark, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Elizabeth's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Plainfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Elizabeth will head out on the road to take on Linden at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Plainfield, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Piscataway at 1:00 p.m. Piscataway is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
