After flying high against the Byers Bulldogs last Tuesday, the Simla Cubs came back down to earth. Simla took a hard 62-48 fall against Burlington on Friday. Simla has not had much luck with Burlington recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Simla saw an underclassman step up: Katie Gotschall scored 15 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Brickell, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Burlington got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trinitee Holmes out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Lynzee Neal was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.
Simla has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Burlington, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.
Simla will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Dolores Huerta Prep at 5:30 p.m. Dolores Huerta Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Simla is ranked 81st). Burlington won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Calhan at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Calhan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 41 last Tuesday.
