They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 56-22 win over Desert Christian Academy. The result was nothing new for Maranatha, who have now won five games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Maranatha's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Miles Omalley, who rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Omalley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards. Dejohn Jones was another key contributor, rushing for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Desert Christian Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Mawhiney. Despite the final result, he rushed for 93 yards on only 11 carries, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Dylan Smith made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Maranatha's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Vasquez and 3-6 Desert Christian Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.3% over those games). As for Desert Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Maranatha will be playing at home against Whittier Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Whittier Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 280 points over their last six contests. As for Desert Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
