The Chicopee Comp Colts will take on the Ludlow Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chicopee Comp has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with ten straight defeats, while Ludlow will come in with three straight wins.
Chicopee Comp lost 13-5 to Southwick Regional on Tuesday.
Arianna Bird made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ari Chagnon, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ludlow). Everything went their way against Chicopee on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-7 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Lions with their most commanding win of the season.
Kylie Roach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Roach was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caitlyn Peczka, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Liv Slatton was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Ludlow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Ludlow pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Chicopee Comp, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Chicopee Comp has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .448. However, it's not like Ludlow struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chicopee Comp might still be hurting after the 13-7 defeat they got from Ludlow in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Colts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
