Softball Recap: Carbondale Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Carbondale can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Johnston City Indians. For the Terriers, this counts as revenge for the 11-0 win the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2023.

Lauren Lehman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Jasmine Martin was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Anniston Thompson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Carbondale hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Carbondale's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Johnston City, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carbondale will square off against East St. Louis at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Johnston City, they will face off against Pinckneyville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians have a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while the Panthers will come in with eight straight wins.
