This season hasn't been kind to the West Cowboys, who are still winless after their 11th contest. They were outmatched by Walnut Ridge at home and fell 70-9. While losing is never fun, West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 787th, while Walnut Ridge is ranked 380th).
Walnut Ridge can attribute much of their success to Jayana Gore, who scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gore has scored all season. Quorion Small was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
West's defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 8.9 points per game. As for Walnut Ridge, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.
West will play host again and welcome Briggs, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Walnut Ridge, they will head out on the road to challenge Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
