The Gallup Bengals fell victim to the Kirtland Central Broncos''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 54-0 to the Broncos, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Gallup has struggled against Kirtland Central recently, as their contest on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kirtland Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyler Joe, who threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes. Joe was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Demusico Edsitty, who rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries.
Gallup's loss was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-1 Bloomfield and 7-2 Socorro (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 55.3% over those games). As for Kirtland Central, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gallup will take on Bloomfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bloomfield is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Kirtland Central, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Aztec at 7:00 p.m.
