The Vanguard Knights can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 58-12 win over North Marion. The win was just what Vanguard needed coming off of a 64-30 loss in their prior match.
Vanguard's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aniyah Hope, who scored ten points along with four steals. Sylnya Roberson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, North Marion saw an underclassman step up: Amarane Hopkins scored seven points along with ten rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Hopkins grabbed two or more steals.
Vanguard's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11. As for North Marion, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-13.
Vanguard the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Buchholz at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Buchholz presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Vanguard in Florida (Buchholz is ranked 147th, while Vanguard is ranked 433rd). As for North Marion, they will head out on the road to square off against Hawthorne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hawthorne will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
