Section 1 A - 2 recap September 24, 2013
Yorktown's Nicky Bonitatibus recorded the longest rushing play in Section 1 A - 2 this season in his game against Riverside last week. Bonitatibus ran for 89 yards on the play and finished with 104 on the day as his team bested the Rams.
Fans got a thrill when Naim Mickens and Jarrett Gilleo connected against Lakeland. The connection was good for 66 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Liam Daros put up the best numbers through the air as Brewster fell to John Jay. He finished with a total of 8 completions for 102 yards and 35 touchdowns. Daros' favorite target this week was Kyle Catalano, who caught 3 passes for 57 yards.
Justin Davidov was a passing and rushing force as Ossining defeated Poughkeepsie. He completed 15 passes for 233 yards and also ran for 91 yards. Davidov's key target this week was James Johnson, who caught 4 passes for 89 yards.
He went 8-15 with 1 interception.
Johnson was the best wideout in the league this week as Ossining bested the Pioneers. Michael O'Connor helped Ossining's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 69 yards.
Connor Vlasaty was the best running back in Section 1 A - 2 this week. He ran for 141 yards on 10 carries as Somers topped Poughkeepsie. Teammate Matt Morgante added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.
Davidov has thrown for 696 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Johnson has 12 catches for 270 yards. Davidov also leads the league in rushing with 444 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Spring Valley takes on Pelham Memorial. The Tigers are in 10th place, while the Pelicans are in seventh place.
Eastchester moved up to 270 from 351 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of beating Gorton 33-0.
