Doral Academy Red Rock is a perfect 7-0 against Eldorado since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Dragons will square off against the Firehawks at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Doral Academy Red Rock has seven straight wins, Eldorado has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Doral Academy Red Rock needed a bit of extra time to put away Spring Valley. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Grizzlies. The game was the first time the Dragons have beaten the Grizzlies on their field since March 22, 2022.
EmmaLynn Hussey and Hailey Ufer were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Hussey struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Ufer tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Hussey scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-5, while Ufer scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Gabriella Rodriguez was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Alyssa Marshall was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Doral Academy Red Rock kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Eldorado came up short against Sierra Vista on Tuesday, falling 22-6.
Stephanie Ramos was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Gallegos Ariel, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Doral Academy Red Rock's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Eldorado, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Eldorado's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Doral Academy Red Rock has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Eldorado, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Doral Academy Red Rock keep running through batters, or will the Firehawks buck the trend?
Everything went Doral Academy Red Rock's way against Eldorado when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Doral Academy Red Rock made off with a 16-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
