The Calvary Chapel Academy Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Orlando Christian Prep Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Calvary Chapel Academy has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Calvary Chapel Academy gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out City of Life Christian Academy 12-11. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Mauricio Urdaneta made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Urdaneta was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aiden Bishop, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Conner Wolfe, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Orlando Christian Prep had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They never let the Centurions get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Calvary Chapel Academy, Orlando Christian Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: Carter Reis. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 17 over 6.1 innings pitched. Reis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Brayden Schuster was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Seth Vasquez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-3.
Orlando Christian Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Circle Christian only managed two hits.
Orlando Christian Prep's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7 runs. As for Calvary Chapel Academy, their record is now 4-6.
Calvary Chapel Academy might still be hurting after the 15-6 defeat they got from Orlando Christian Prep in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Calvary Chapel Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
