Even though the Bridgeland Bears scored an imposing 59 points on Friday, the Cypress Lakes Spartans still came out on top. Cypress Lakes snuck past Bridgeland with a 63-59 win. Given Cypress Lakes' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Bridgeland is ranked 323rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Aniah Alexis, who dropped a double-double on 40 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it 24 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cypress Lakes' points. Makennah Alexis was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Bridgeland still got an impressive performance from Ibifaa Azogu, who scored 22 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Azogu is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Martin, who scored 14 points.
Cypress Lakes has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season. As for Bridgeland, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 17-16.
Cypress Lakes will take on Langham Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Langham Creek is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60 points per game this season. As for Bridgeland, they will head out on the road to challenge Cypress Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cypress Springs will roll in looking for their 25th straight win, something Bridgeland surely won't give up without a fight.
