Reese hasn't had much luck against Millington recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Rockets will square off against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Reese is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
On Monday, Reese got the win against Harbor Beach by a conclusive 13-3. Considering the Rockets have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Ashtyn Frost, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 14 games. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn VanOchten, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Millington earned a 6-1 victory over Lakeville on Wednesday.
Morgan Matusik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, Logan Matusik was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamyrn Blackmer, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Millington has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Reese, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Reese's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Rockets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Millington, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Reese continue to outrun the ball?
Reese came up short against Millington when the teams last played back in June of 2023, falling 7-2. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
