The Plainfield East Bengals will head out on the road to face off against the Romeoville Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Plainfield East has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Romeoville will arrive with four straight wins.
Plainfield East pushed their score all the way to 64 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Joliet West 70-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (56), Plainfield East still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Plainfield East got a solid performance out of Lexi Sepulveda, who scored 47 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The contest was Sepulveda's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Jenkins, who scored 7 points.
Meanwhile, Romeoville strolled past Riverside-Brookfield with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 55-37. Given Romeoville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Riverside-Brookfield is ranked 403rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The losses dropped Plainfield East to 4-6 and Joliet West to 4-5.
Everything went Plainfield East's way against Romeoville when the teams last played back in January as Plainfield East made off with a 85-59 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Plainfield East since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
