Declo and Firth are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Firth took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Declo, who comes in off a win.
While Declo's victory against Soda Springs wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cardinals 8-7. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won three in a row.
Kyle Bott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Bott was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Declo let Riley Matthews and Zane Snedaker run wild. Matthews scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Snedaker scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those two hits gave Matthews a new career-high. Dodge Edgar also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Declo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Firth unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against Malad, falling 17-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered since May 17, 2024.
Firth saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quinton Hall, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Firth's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Declo, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Declo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Firth struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
