Stroudsburg extended the longest winning streak in Mountain Valley this week by beating Wyoming Valley West, 38-15. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Mountaineers.
Stroudsburg moved up to 68 from 133 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Joe Bernard's team was able to make the jump by beating the Spartans 38-15.
The Mountaineers' dynamic duo of Mike Nikorak and Donovan McDonald proved tough for Wyoming Valley West to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Nikorak threw for 187 yards and one touchdown and McDonald had 148 yards receiving. Justin Pierre helped Stroudsburg's passing attack out by catching one ball for 20 yards.
Niko Petrone was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 292 yards on 21 carries as East Stroudsburg South defeated Patrick Keating's team. Teammate Craig Bonds added to the ground attack by rushing for 55 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Tyler McLaughlin and Petrone the Cavaliers have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. McLaughlin leads the league in passing with 789 yards, while Petrone has rushed for 886 yards this season. The Mountaineers' McDonald leads the league in receiving yards with 477 on 24 catches.
A big matchup in Mountain Valley this week will be when Pleasant Valley takes on East Stroudsburg South. At the moment, the Bears are in fourth, while Ed Christian's team is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Pleasant Valley and the Cavaliers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Jimmy Terwilliger's team comes in having scored 206 this season, while East Stroudsburg South has scored 216. The Bears scored 14 points last week as they topped Pocono Mountain East.
Pleasant Valley and the Cardinals played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Pleasant Valley eventually emerging with a 14-13 victory.
