St. Charles Catholic is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Newman is on a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The St. Charles Catholic Comets will take on the Newman Greenies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, St. Charles Catholic was fully in charge, breezing past Metairie Park Country Day 49-7 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-0.
Meanwhile, Newman took their contest at home last Friday with ease, bagging a 47-12 victory over King Charter. Given Newman's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 28th, while King Charter is ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eli Friend was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 207 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Randle, who gained 82 total yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped St. Charles Catholic to 9-0 and Newman to 8-0.
St. Charles Catholic didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Newman in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 17-13 victory. Will St. Charles Catholic repeat their success, or does Newman have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
