Wakulla extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 6-8. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the North Florida Christian Eagles. The War Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 5-3.
Jackson Lawhon got Wakulla off to a strong start despite the final result, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Lawhon gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Fletcher Brown made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for North Florida Christian, their record now sits at 4-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
On North Florida Christian's side, Michael Crow looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Crow has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, North Florida Christian let Brent Tolley and Jack McFarland run wild. Tolley got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, while McFarland went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. McFarland is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Wakulla has already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Taylor County on the 13th. As for North Florida Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 12-2 loss against St. John Paul II on the 13th.
