Basketball Game Preview: Gateway Charter Academy Gators vs. Village Tech Viper Squid

The Gateway Charter Academy Gators are taking a road trip to challenge the Village Tech Viper Squid at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Village Tech took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Gateway Charter Academy, who comes in off a win.

Gateway Charter Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Inspired Vision 88-17. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Gators as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Gateway Charter Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bobby Williams, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten assists. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Terry Richardson was another key player, going 12 of 16 on his way to 27 points.

Williams wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Gateway Charter Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Village Tech suffered their closest loss since November 16, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Trinity Leadership by a score of 60-58. The Viper Squid haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Gateway Charter Academy's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 4-12. As for Village Tech, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5.

Gateway Charter Academy was dealt a bruising 97-36 loss at the hands of Village Tech in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Gateway Charter Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
