The Mt. Mansfield Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Hartford Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Mansfield is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
On Thursday, Mt. Mansfield was able to grind out a solid win over Burlington, taking the game 10-5. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Caleb Murphy and Langdon Hazen did most of the damage at the plate: Murphy went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double, while Hazen went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Hazen has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Garrett Carter, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hartford faced Bellows Falls in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Hurricanes came out on top against the Terriers by a score of 4-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last eight times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Hartford's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hugh Wendling, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Solly Flores also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Mt. Mansfield's record is now 6-2. As for Hartford, their record now sits at 3-6.
Mt. Mansfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's match. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hartford, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mt. Mansfield continue to outrun the ball?
Mt. Mansfield took their victory against Hartford when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
