Softball Game Preview: Macomb Bombers vs. Quincy Blue Devils

Macomb is 1-9 against Quincy since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Bombers will challenge the Blue Devils at 10:00 a.m.

Macomb is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Beardstown.

Macomb saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Whitney, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Jordyn Shoopman was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Quincy came into Friday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 14-10 victory over PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central on Friday. The Blue Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Maggie Neally was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Avary Hlubek, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Quincy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Quincy's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Macomb, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Quincy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Macomb has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Quincy, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 strikeouts. Will Macomb keep running through batters, or will the Blue Devils buck the trend?

Macomb skirted past Quincy 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Will the Bombers repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
